Ignition coil failure can turn your vehicle into a bullock cart!
Ignition coils also referred to as spark coils are used in automobile ignition systems and are used to create an electric spark in the spark plug to ignite the fuel. The failure of the ignition coil results in problems while starting the vehicle and also during the running of the vehicle. There are few symptoms which indicate a coil failure. If the vehicle is backfiring, it indicates ignition coil failure. This is an early symptom of coil failure and generally occurs when unused fuel is released from the exhaust. The exhaust might also emit black coloured smoke. This should be addressed as soon as it is discovered in order to avoid costly repairs. Sometimes there are starting problems that indicate that the spark plug is not receiving the necessary amount of electrical charge and this happens when the ignition coil fails to deliver the desired voltage to the plug. Another symptom of ignition coil failure is fuel economy. If the vehicle is using up much more fuel per kilometre than it usually does, it implies that the spark plug is not receiving the appropriate amount of charge and it is trying to consume more fuel to compensate for the less electrical charge and keep the vehicle running. If in this case, the weight on the vehicle increases, more fuel is used up and it could damage the plug. It is essential to get the plug rectified and this invariably adds up to the cost.
Other situations such as engine misfiring and vehicle stalling are indications of ignition coil failure. The damaged coil should be replaced to avoid any further damage to the vehicle and to curtail additional unnecessary costs. However, the replacement should be the same type of ignition coil like the one before. Specific ignition coils are available for specific engines and any change in the coil specifications for a particular engine can harm the engine causing engine breakdown. While replacing, the connectors should be checked and cleaned to assure uninterrupted electrical connection. It is very important to choose the correct ignition coil for the engine in a vehicle.
Can FTSPARK be the solution?
The intensity of spark generated by the ignition can decide the fate of your car’s performance. If the spark level is not enough, it could lead to something more than poor performance – “engine damage”. Research on ECU and ignition solutions and their development has been carried out and FuelTech has come up with FTSPARK module for ignition, which gives the needed jolt to the ignition coil for it to perform. Not just boost and fireworks that it provides your ignition, but it also makes your ride run better than before by providing a better level of control. An easy to handle and a lightweight ignition system is what any car owner looks forward to and this requirement is fulfilled by FTSPARK. It is a very powerful CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) module that is easily compatible with any ECU and it can generate energy up to 600 mj (Mili Joules) and 125 amps of current to the coil. To make a quick comparison between FTSPARK and SparkPro, FTSPARK is 10 times faster and five times more powerful than the SparkPro. FTSPARK is designed to work with any engine. Data logger channels, another feature of the FTSPARK, handle things such as supply voltage, discharge time, capacitor data and also drop in supply voltage. It also gives an indication of temperature, which can be used to prevent damage in case the temperature becomes high. An internal protection system can be triggered in this case. The time taken to charge and the voltage flow is also monitored by the FTSPARK. It is a robust unit that helps any engine combination create the spark it requires.
